A Simple Calibration Procedure for Fish-Eye (High-Distortion) Lens Camera
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a new algorithm for the geometric camera calibration of a fish-eye lens (a high distortion lens) mounted on a CCD TV camera. The algorithm determines a mapping between points in the world coordinate system and their corresponding point locations in the image plane. The parameters to be calibrated are effective focal length, one-pixel width on the image plane, image distortion center, and distortion coeficients. A simple calibration pattern consisting of equally spaced dots is introduced as a reference for calibration. Some parameters to be calibrated are eliminated b y setting up the calibration pattern precisely and assuming negligible distortion at the image distortion center. Thus, the number of unknown parameters t o be calibrated is drastically reduced, enabling simple and useful calibration. The method employs a polynomial transformation between points in the world coordinate system and their corresponding image plane locations. The coeflcients of the polynomial are determined using the Lagrangian estimation. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed calibration method is confirmed by experimentation.

Intrinsic parameter calibration procedure for a (high-distortion) fish-eye lens camera with distortion model and accuracy estimation
-This paper presents a calibration procedure for a fish-eye lens (a high-distortion lens) mounted on a CCD TV camera. The method is designed to account for the differences in images acquired via a distortion-free lens camera setup and the images obtained by a fish-eye lens camera. The calibration procedure essentially defines a mapping between points in the world coordinate system and their cor...
متن کاملAutomatic calibration of fish-eye cameras from automotive video sequences
A technique for calibrating a lens in the automotive environment to compensate for radial distortion introduced by wide-angle or fish-eye lenses, without the need for a dedicated calibration environment, is proposed. At present, car manufacturers are endeavouring to introduce systems that provide the driver with views of the car’s surroundings that are not directly visible (blind zones). To ach...
متن کاملModelling and Removal of Distortions in Images
This thesis investigates the compensation and minimisation of distortions in images. Various forms of non-linear lens distortions are modelled and removed. Projective linear distortions are further minimised to give the closest ideal projection from erroneous cameras. Traditional camera calibration treats lens distortion simultaneously with camera pose and lens scaling factors. This often leads...

Most algorithms in 3-D Computer Vision rely on the pinhole camera model because of its simplicity, whereas video optics, especially low-cost wide-angle or fish-eye lens, generate a lot of non-linear distortion which can be critical. To find the distortion parameters of a camera, we use the following fundamental property: a camera follows the pinhole model if and only if the projection of every ...
متن کاملWhen Should We Consider Lens Distortion in Camera Calibration
In this paper, calibrating a camera refers to the process of determining the transformation between a 3D object coordinate system and the 2D image coordinate system of the camera. Knowing this transformation, 3D position of a feature point seen in two cameras can be determined by using triangulation. Suppose a distortion-free lens is had, this 3D-2D transformation can be well approximated by a ...
